SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir candidates received a combined 625 accepted internship offers across the two pilot rounds of the Prime Minister Internship Scheme, yet only 34 of the Round 1 interns had completed their placements as on November 30 2025, official tables placed in the Lok Sabha show.
The ministry’s data reveal that in Round 1 companies posted 761 internship opportunities for Jammu and Kashmir, made 769 offers and had 296 offers accepted by candidates. In Round 2 companies posted 533 opportunities, made 939 offers and 329 offers were accepted. Taken together, the accepted offers for the Union Territory total 625, representing roughly 1.18 per cent of the 52,779 accepted offers nationally across both rounds.
Acceptance of offers in Round 1 amounted to about 38.5 per cent of offers made and roughly 38.9 per cent of internships posted. In Round 2 the accepted share was 35.0 per cent of offers made but a markedly higher 61.7 per cent of internships posted. Furthermore, with only 34 Round 1 interns from Jammu and Kashmir recorded as having completed their yearlong internships by November 30, conversion to completion stands at just 11.5 per cent of accepted offers so far, though the ministry notes many internships finish as late as March 2026.
Participation by women and marginalised groups in Jammu and Kashmir showed strong increases between rounds. Women applicants rose from 497 in Round 1 to 1,175 in Round 2, an increase of about 136 per cent. Applicants from OBC, SC and ST categories also increased from a combined 544 in Round 1 to 919 in Round 2.
Nationally, the scheme posted over 127,000 internship opportunities in Round 1 with 82,077 offers made and 28,141 accepted; Round 2 posted about 118,948 opportunities with 83,696 offers and 24,638 accepted. As the ministry acknowledged, the pilot includes a Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning framework and a dedicated dashboard for key performance indicators, but the scheme is not designed to guarantee placements; companies may make appointments at their discretion.
The ministry says the PMIS portal is available in 12 languages and that it is carrying out information campaigns.
