SRINAGAR: Dr Darakhshan Andrabi, Chairperson of the Jammu and Kashmir Waqf Board, has directed an increase in the remuneration of temporary employees who have been working on low wages for decades, according to a statement issued on Saturday.
The employees have been categorised as skilled, semi-skilled, and unskilled, with their monthly remuneration set at Rs 18,000, Rs 16,000, and Rs 15,000, respectively. This revision represents a salary increase of 200 percent to 400 percent for employees who were previously earning as little as Rs 3,000 per month.
Regular employees of the Board, including Imaams, Khateebs, pensioners, and family pensioners, will also receive a 20 percent salary increase.
The decision was taken during a meeting on Saturday, chaired by Andrabi and attended by Board members Ghulam Nabi Haleem and Syed Mohammed Hussain, along with Executive Magistrate Ishtiyaq Mohiuddin.
Andrabi described the move as a significant step towards addressing long-standing pay disparities. She noted that employees had been underpaid for 20 years and expressed hope that the salary increase would enable them to celebrate Eid with dignity, support their families, and provide better educational opportunities for their children.
