SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir Police on Sunday said it has arrested 30 individuals over the past year for passing SIM cards to militants.
In a statement, a police spokesperson said, “More than 30 individuals have been arrested for procuring SIM cards in their names and passing them on to terrorists for unlawful activities.”
The spokesperson urged citizens to remain cautious about SIM cards issued in their names. “Anyone found facilitating the misuse of SIM cards for terrorism or organized crime will face strict legal consequences,” the statement read.
The police added that the State Investigation Agency (SIA) and district police units are taking firm action against such violations.
“Jammu and Kashmir Police have intensified efforts to curb the misuse of SIM cards by terrorists and criminal elements. Extensive inspections have been conducted across multiple districts, including Srinagar, Ganderbal, Anantnag, Budgam, Pulwama, Shopian, Bandipora, Samba, and Kishtwar, to ensure strict compliance with Know Your Customer (KYC) norms by SIM card vendors,” the statement said.
