JK Police Attach Property Worth Lakhs, Book 7 Under PIT NDPS Act

   

SRINAGAR: In its ongoing efforts to combat drug trafficking, Jammu and Kashmir Police have taken decisive actions across multiple districts.

A police spokesperson in a statement said, “In Srinagar, a single-storied residential house valued at approximately Rs 19 lakhs, belonging to a chronic drug peddler, Mohammad Younis Wani of Ranbirgarh, was attached under the NDPS Act. The property was allegedly acquired using proceeds from illegal narcotics trade, police said. The accused is currently lodged in Central Jail Srinagar.””

The action was executed under Section 68 of the NDPS Act, in the presence of an Executive Magistrate, with restrictions imposed on any transactions involving the seized property without prior permission.

“Meanwhile, seven notorious drug peddlers from Kulgam and Awantipora have been detained under the PIT NDPS Act. Among those booked are Nisar Ahmad Mir, Manzoor Ahmad Mir, and Hilal Ahmad Mir from Kulgam, as well as Aadil Ahmad Bhat, Gulzar Ahmad Dar, Yawar Yousuf Sofi, and Feroze Ahmad Chopan from Awantipora,” it reads.

The police said that these individuals were actively involved in supplying drugs to local youth, posing a significant threat to public health and societal stability. The detainees have been lodged in Central Jail Kot Bhalwal and District Jail Jammu.

Under Section 3 of the PIT NDPS Act, individuals engaged in illicit narcotics trafficking can be detained for up to one year, with provisions for extension.

J&K Police reaffirmed their commitment to tackling drug abuse and sought public cooperation in eradicating this menace to safeguard the youth.
