SRINAGAR: Police in Jammu and Kashmir have intensified their drive against drug trafficking and its related activities, taking significant actions across various districts to dismantle networks and protect the community from the menace of substance abuse.
In Srinagar, police seized a vehicle linked to proceeds from illegal narcotics trade. The vehicle was traced to two individuals, Asif Ahmad Sheikh and Arif Ahmad Sheikh, both residents of Babapora Barthana. “The accused were arrested under FIR No. 136/2024 registered at Police Station Parimpora under Section 8/20 of the NDPS Act. Financial investigations revealed that the vehicle was purchased with illicit earnings, leading to its seizure under Section 68 of the NDPS Act.”
Meanwhile, a police team in Nowhatta apprehended Haris Farooq, a resident of Hakabazar Badamwari, during a routine checkpoint near Islamia College. Upon search, contraband SpasmoProxyvon capsules were recovered from his possession. “A case under FIR No. 56/2024 was registered, and further investigation is ongoing,” police said.
In Awantipora, two notorious drug peddlers, Yawar Yousuf Sofi of Kadlabal Pampore and Feroze Ahmad Chopan of Larow Jagir Tral, were detained under the PIT NDPS Act following formal detention orders. Both individuals, implicated in multiple cases of drug distribution among local youth, have been lodged in Central Jail Kot-Balwal, Jammu. Similarly, in Handwara, police detained Manzoor Ahmad Shah, a resident of Gund Moomin and a key member of a drug trafficking syndicate. Despite earlier arrests, Shah continued his activities, leading to his detention under Section 3 of the PIT NDPS Act.
The police have urged citizens to report any drug-related activities to local authorities or by dialling 112. They reiterated their commitment to eradicating the drug menace through stringent actions against offenders, safeguarding the region’s youth, and working towards a drug-free society.
