SRINAGAR: The Power Development Department (PDD) has increased the power supply to the Kashmir Valley by an additional 100 MW during the current winter season compared to the same period last year. This comes amidst rising demand caused by plummeting temperatures across the region, a DIPR statement said.
Official data reveals that between November 16 and November 30, the average power supply stood at 1489 MW, a 101 MW increase from 1388 MW in the corresponding period last year. From December 1 to December 4, the supply rose to 1525 MW, up by 60 MW from last year’s 1465 MW. Between December 4 and December 8, the Valley received 1595 MW, marking a 145 MW increase from the 1450 MW supplied during the same timeframe last year.
The PDD credited these improvements to efforts by the government to address seasonal power shortages. On November 7, the Ministry of Power allocated 300 MW of additional power to Jammu and Kashmir to help meet the region’s winter energy demands.
The Chief Minister also reviewed the power supply situation on December 4, directing the PDD to ensure that Kashmir experiences fewer power cuts and to strictly adhere to the publicised curtailment schedule. The government has emphasised the need to provide reliable power while simultaneously addressing revenue recovery and curbing energy thefts.
