Jammu and Kashmir Entrepreneurship Development Institute (JKEDI) has started a fresh training programme for unemployed youth in south Kashmir’s Shopian district.

The three-week Entrepreneurship Development Programme (EDP) aimed at carrying forward the objective of making the unemployed youth self reliable.

The EDP for 30 candidates under Himayat Scheme is going on at Government Degree College, Shopian. The candidates are being trained under self employment component of Himayat scheme implemented by JKEDI, a path breaking initiative of Ministry of Rural Development, Govt. of India, aims at providing entrepreneurial skills for sustainable livelihood to youth of J&K and facilitate access to finance and support services to at least 50% of them.

The EDP started on December 07 with active support of Principal GDC Shopian, Prof. Showket Ahmed.

The training program is modeled for manufacturing and services and agri-allied sector and the aspiring entrepreneurs have chosen various entrepreneurial activities like Sheep and dairy farming, manufacturing, retail shops, IT, pharmacy stores and boutiques.

The main objective of the three-week-long EDP is to imbibe amongst the participants the required entrepreneurial and managerial skills so that they are able to start their own ventures. A batch of 29 aspiring entrepreneurs passed out from JKEDI district office Shopian after completing a similar three week training programme at GDC Shopian last month.
