SRINAGAR: The International Monetary Fund (IMF) is now accepting applications for the Economist Programme (EP) 2025, an excellent opportunity for recent PhD graduates eager to begin their careers while addressing global economic challenges.
This programme offers participants hands-on experience across a wide range of IMF activities, allowing them to apply their research and analytical skills directly to key policy initiatives that impact the organisation’s 190 member countries. The deadline for applications is 6 December 2024.
Applicants must either be recent PhD graduates or expect to complete their PhD within one year of joining the IMF. Their studies should be in relevant fields such as macroeconomics, finance, public finance, monetary economics, international economics, trade, poverty issues, climate economics, political economy, econometrics, or related disciplines.
Candidates should demonstrate a strong understanding of macroeconomic concepts, with the ability to use theoretical frameworks to explain complex issues and address various economic sectors. A solid academic record is essential, along with proven analytical, quantitative, data, and computing skills.
Applicants must be nationals of an IMF member country and under the age of 34 at the start of the programme on 8 September 2025. Strong written and verbal communication skills in English are also required.
Shortlisted candidates will be interviewed between October and January, with offers made in early February. The selection process includes several stages: a Preliminary Interview, Document Submission (including a recent university transcript, three academic references excluding current IMF staff, and a research paper or dissertation chapters), a Panel Interview, a psychometric assessment, and a written exam designed to assess behavioural skills and writing proficiency.
