SRINAGAR: Kashmir is experiencing unusually warm days reminiscent of early summer, with sunny skies dominating the region. The plains of Kashmir remain free from snow, presenting a stark contrast to the typical winter conditions.
Minimum temperatures, however, reflect the season’s chill, particularly in the higher altitudes. Srinagar recorded a minimum temperature of -3.3°C, while Gulmarg and Sonamarg plunged to -8.5°C and -9.8°C, respectively. Zojila witnessed an extreme low of -28.0°C. Other notable readings include -7.0°C in Pahalgam, -4.9°C in Khudwani, and -5.1°C in Larnoo.
In Jammu, temperatures were comparatively mild, with Jammu city recording 6.1°C and Katra 8.2°C. The coldest location in the region was Padder at -4.4°C, while Bhaderwah registered 0.5°C.
Ladakh continued to experience extreme cold, with both Leh and Kargil recording minimum temperatures of -11.8°C. Drass, known as one of the coldest inhabited places on Earth, registered a frigid -22.4°C.
The weather pattern highlights a distinct split between daytime warmth and freezing nights, as Kashmir’s plains bask in sunshine while the higher reaches endure intense cold.
