Kashmir Gardens Host Over 5.6 Million Visitors in 2024

   

SRINAGAR: Kashmir’s gardens and parks welcomed 5.6 million visitors between April and October 2024, with the majority—over 3.2 million—being local residents.

The Tulip Garden remains open for around one month as the life tulips is not more than 15-17 days.

According to official data, from April to October, the region’s gardens and parks saw a total of 5,606,115 visitors, including locals, domestic tourists, and international visitors. Locals accounted for 57 per cent of the total footfall, with 3,243,465 individuals enjoying the valley’s green spaces.

Mughal Gardens Steal the Spotlight
The famed Mughal gardens continued to attract the highest number of visitors, with Nishat Garden leading the list at 1,165,827 visitors, followed by Shalimar Garden with 614,830, and Cheshmashahi Garden with 482,436. These gardens, renowned for their historic architecture and scenic beauty, remain a global attraction.

Strong Local Engagement
Locals formed a significant portion of visitors, highlighting the cultural and emotional connection between Kashmiris and their gardens. The Tulip Garden, a seasonal favorite, drew over 100,252 local visitors during its blooming period.

Other Popular Spots
Kokernag Garden saw 404,714 visitors, while the Botanical Garden (NMBG) in Srinagar welcomed 512,556 guests. Urban parks such as Iqbal Park and Badamwari also recorded notable footfalls, serving as recreational hubs for families and children.

Local Demands and Concerns
While locals cherish these green spaces, they have called for better facilities, including free entry for children, reduced fees for residents, improved restrooms, shaded areas, and drinking water facilities. Residents have also urged authorities to maintain these spaces better, ensuring they remain both tourist attractions and essential relaxation zones for the community.

“These gardens are not only tourist magnets but also serve as vital cultural and recreational spaces for the local population,” residents said.
