Kashmir University Graduate Wins National ‘Young Investigator Award’ for Cancer Research

   

SRINAGAR: A young scholar from Kashmir has been honoured at a major national scientific forum for his contributions to cutting-edge cancer research. Zahid Bashir Zargar, a BPharm graduate of the University of Kashmir’s Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences, has been awarded the Young Investigator Award at the Annual Conference of the Indian Pharmacological Society (IPSCON-2025), held in Chandigarh from November 20 to 22.

Zargar, who completed his master’s degree in Pharmacology before beginning his doctoral research at Panjab University, has been recognised for his growing body of work in onco-pharmacology, cancer immunotherapy, and drug discovery. His research profile includes extensive experience across in-silico, in-vitro, and in-vivo methodologies and multiple peer-reviewed publications in high-impact international journals focusing on cancer biology and therapeutics.

In addition to his academic achievements, Zargar has gained practical exposure through industry training with Sun Pharma and service as a pharmacist at the DRDO COVID Hospital in Srinagar. He has earned prestigious fellowships such as the AICTE-GPAT and DST-SERB JRF/SRF, and has contributed to national research projects as well as international neuroscience training initiatives.

Colleagues and mentors familiar with his work describe him as a researcher who combines strong technical proficiency with analytical depth and project management skills. His current research interests centre on colorectal cancer and experimental and regulatory pharmacology, areas where he has already made notable progress through DST-SERB-supported projects.
