After widespread protests at a stretch for 9 days, authorities Monday continued to impose strict curfew across Kashmir to curb clashes.
Old Srinagar city reeled under curfew while the civilian lines area remained peaceful. Skeletal movement of transport was witnesses on the Civil Lines areas, however, all the shops and business establishment remained shut.
A police official told CNS that stray incidents of stone-pelting were reported from Hajin Sumbal area of North Kashmir’s Bandipora area. “Police swung into action and chased these youth away. The situation remained peaceful throughout Valley,” he said.
Reports said that during the intervening night of Sunday and Monday, protesters tried to set a youth club on fire in Bandipora. The club was partially damaged, reports said.
Meanwhile, the local newspapers failed to hit the stands for the third consecutive day in curfew-bound Kashmir. No dailies-English, Urdu and Kashmiri — were available as the newspaper- owners decided not to publish them after authorities raided some media houses and seized their printed copies.
