In a statement released on Friday, Chief Engineer Distribution, KPDCL, Er Aaquib Waheed Deva, said that the scheme would remain available only until March 31, 2025, with no further extensions. “Consumers can either pay their principal amount due to Kashmir Discom in full or in equal instalments over the remaining four months to claim the waiver on late payment surcharges and settle their claims,” she said.

So far, 1,09,648 domestic consumers have availed themselves of the scheme, resulting in the collection of Rs. 164 crore in revenue. The scheme aims to cover 1,50,907 consumers with substantial outstanding balances owed to KPDCL.

The Government has waived an amount of Rs. 58 crore in late payment surcharges, providing significant relief to domestic consumers by clearing their opening balances.

The Chief Engineer advised remaining consumers to approach their respective Electric Subdivisions to settle their bills. “There are still many domestic consumers with large opening balances who are yet to approach their subdivisions to settle their dues,” she said, emphasising that this is the final opportunity under the scheme.

She further added that after the scheme’s closure, KPDCL would have no choice but to pursue legal action and disconnection for non-compliant consumers.
