SRINAGAR: Amid criticism from the PDP over proposed satellite townships in Kashmir, Senior National Conference (NC) leader and Advisor to Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, Nasir Aslam Wani, reassured the public that the townships are intended for the local population.
“We are still dealing with the repercussions of the PDP’s past actions. If any satellite township is established, it will be for the local people. There is no need to make an issue out of it,” Wani said during a press conference at the Nawa-e-Subh party headquarters, responding to accusations from the PDP regarding demographic changes.
Wani’s remarks were made during the National Conference’s provincial meeting, which addressed key regional issues. He firmly dismissed concerns about demographic shifts, emphasising the government’s commitment to the welfare of Kashmir’s residents.
Adding further reassurance, NC Chief Spokesman Tanvir Sadiq announced that the government would issue an official response to the PDP’s objections. “Every decision we make will always prioritise the betterment of the people of Jammu and Kashmir,” Sadiq said, urging the public not to exaggerate the controversy.
In a related development, the National Conference marked a leadership change by electing Showkat Mir as the new provincial president, reinforcing the party’s focus on local governance and regional development. (NVI)
