As Kashmir Traders and Manufacturers Federation (KTMF) is demanding extension in dates for filing GST returns, Commissioner GST PK Bhat Saturday said they have already taken up the issue with the higher authorities.

“However, at the same time, the traders should not wait and file the returns as soon as possible. The penalty per day is just Rs 50 and it is better the traders’ file GST in time. Those who are not filing the returns are habitual defaulters and they are trying to make excuses,” he told KNS.

Bhat said he has given a direction to his officers to provide every facility to the traders so that they can file the GST returns without any hassles.

Recently the government had extended the deadline to file GST returns to December 21. However, the traders complain that in absence of internet facilities in Kashmir, they were facing huge problems in filing returns.

“It takes hours together to file GST Returns on internet. But we have limited access to the internet due to which delay is occurring. We appeal the authorities to extend the deadline further as last time most of the traders didn’t come to know about the deadline,” a spokesperson of KTMF was quoted by newsagency KNS as saying.
