North Kashmir’s Kupwara district that was battered by the unrest erupting last week regained semblance of normalcy on Wednesday.
Handwara, Drugmulla, Trehgam and other areas spiralled into vortex of violence over reports about alleged molestation by an army man in main Handwara chowk following which five persons died in the ensuing protests.
On Wednesday, the border district limped back to normalcy as schools and colleges re-opened and police forces were scaled back from the streets.
In Handwara, which was at the centre of the week-long violence, witnessed shops and other businesses reopen.
However, Degree college, higher secondary and other schools were still closed in an indication that the town was still reeled under the influence of deadly spasm of violence.
Sources said locals were reluctant and demanded an immediate enquiry into the killing and punished the guilty
