SRINAGAR: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah’s visit to the landslide-hit Ramban district took a turn on Tuesday when residents halted his convoy to voice concerns over slow relief efforts. The Chief Minister stepped out to engage with them directly, assuring that the administration would provide necessary support to those affected by the natural disaster.
Abdullah, accompanied by officials and local representatives, visited several impacted areas including Kali Morh, Seri, and the Ramban market. He assessed damage caused by flash floods and landslides, met affected families, and reviewed ongoing relief operations.
On foot and by air, Abdullah has been monitoring the situation over the past two days. He was briefed by the Deputy Commissioner and others on restoration efforts. The calamity has claimed three lives and severely damaged infrastructure, leaving the region cut off for the third consecutive day.
The Chief Minister extended condolences to the bereaved families and said the government would prioritise relief and rehabilitation. Work to clear debris and restore the Srinagar-Jammu highway is ongoing, with multiple agencies involved.
