SRINAGAR: The High Court of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh has quashed the detention of a North Kashmir youth, Irshad Ahmad Dar of Mundji Sopore, who had been imprisoned under the Public Safety Act (PSA) since 2019.
Dar, represented by Advocate Bashir Ahmed Tak, was accused of providing logistical support to militants and was arrested in 2019. Advocate Tak submitted before the court that his client’s detention under the PSA had already been quashed by the court in December 2019. However, despite the court’s order, Dar was not released.
The counsel argued that Irshad Dar had been arrested twice on the same charges, which he claimed was both unlawful and unjustified. He said that the authorities had disregarded the court’s earlier ruling, thereby violating the detenue’s fundamental rights.
After hearing detailed arguments and counterarguments, Justice Muhammad Yousuf Wani quashed the detention order and directed the authorities to ensure the immediate release of Irshad Ahmad Dar from Srinagar Central Jail. (KNT)
