SRINAGAR: Election Commission of India officials are set to visit Jammu and Kashmir next week to review preparedness for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, likely to be held in April-May.

Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar, accompanied by election commissioners, will undertake the visit on March 12 and 13. During the visit, the ECI officials are expected to meet various stakeholders, including representatives of political parties, and civil and police administration in both divisions.

Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo, in a recent meeting with the civil and police administration, emphasized the importance of ensuring free and fair elections with large-scale public participation. He urged officials to take all necessary measures to facilitate voters and ensure a smooth electoral process. Dulloo also directed departments to comply with ECI guidelines effectively and ensure that facilities such as toilets, ramps, power, drinking water, and furniture are available at each polling station.

Chief Electoral Officer PK Pole outlined initiatives to enhance electoral literacy, including campaigns in educational institutions and the appointment of campus ambassadors. Additionally, the meeting addressed concerns such as connectivity issues at polling stations, approach roads, and transportation arrangements for electoral machinery and staff across the Union Territory. The administration is gearing up to ensure a seamless electoral process for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls.
