Residents of Zachaldara in Frontier district Kupwara Monday alleged that no proper health care facilities are available in Zachaldara Medical Block despite the fact government spends millions under National Rural Health Mission (NRHM). The residents alleged that the lone Sub-District Hospital, two Primary Health centres and one Administrative Block are defunct while for minor treatments patients are referred to District Hospital Handwara.

Locals told CNS that they are facing hardships as for minor treatment they have to move towards Handwara. “My son sahil shafi was referred from PHC wadipora to District Hospital Handwara for mere two stitches. Not a single doctor or instruments are available in the PHC,” said Mohd Shafi of chalpora, Rajwar.

They said that all but a population of 30,000 is dependent on PHC wadipora, PHC Behnipra, AD wadder and Sub District Hospital Zachaldara.

Residents of the area told CNS that in sub District Hospital Zachaldara patients are also being referred to  District Hospital Handwara for minor treatment.

When contacted, Mission Director NRHM, Yeshpal Sharma told CNS that he would convey the problems faced by people to Director Health Kashmir. “I assure people that under NRHM programme all the facilities will be provided in all the Primary Health Centres,” he said adding that he would personally visit Zachaldar Block to ascertain the facts.
