SRINAGAR: Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) president Mehbooba Mufti on Saturday raised grave concerns over the state of affairs at Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University (BGSBU), warning that the institution is drifting away from its founding vision due to administrative and academic failures.
Addressing a protest march held by PDP, Mufti said BGSBU, a premier centre of higher education in the Pir Panjal region, is reeling under the absence of a full-time Registrar, shortage of both teaching and non-teaching staff, and lack of modern, career-oriented courses. She described the university as “a beautiful dream slowly turning into a nightmare” and held the administration responsible for what she termed an unacceptable decline.
The PDP demanded urgent reforms, including the introduction of courses in Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, Renewable Energy, Tourism Management and Skill Development to improve employability and align the institution with industry demands.
Mufti stressed that BGSBU has the potential to become a hub of innovation and growth but requires timely intervention and long-term vision to revive its original mandate.
Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University is a technical state university located near Rajouri in the Jammu division of the Indian union territory of Jammu and Kashmir. It is regulated by the University Grants Commission and a member of the Association of Indian Universities.
