SRINAGAR: While most plains in Jammu and Kashmir were soaked by heavy rains, light snowfall was observed in some higher reaches. The weather department forecasted additional precipitation in the forthcoming days.

A meteorological department official said that in the past 24 hours, light to moderate rain was recorded in most places, along with light snowfall in a few higher reaches.

“Up to 0830 hours, Srinagar received 15.0mm of rain, Qazigund 15.2mm, Pahalgam 32.4mm, Kupwara 11.6mm, Kokernag 8.44mm, Gulmarg 8.2mm, Jammu traces, Banihal 27.6mm, Batote 9.5mm, Katra traces, and Bhaderwah 8.6mm,” he said.

The official forecasted generally cloudy weather with light to moderate rain in plains and snow in higher reaches until April 15, with the possibility of heavy rain, thunder, lightning, and gusty winds in isolated places.

From April 16-17, partly to generally cloudy weather with light rain and snow in isolated places is expected.

During April 18-19, generally cloudy weather with light rain and snow in many places, along with thunder and lightning, is anticipated.

From April 20-24, generally dry weather is expected, although afternoon thundershower activity cannot be ruled out.

Farmers are advised to suspend farm operations until April 16. Temporary disruption of surface transportation in a few higher reaches is expected during April 14 and 15.

“Temporary waterlogging is expected in a few low-lying areas,” the official added, “There is a possibility of landslides, mudslides, and shooting stones.”

Regarding temperatures, Srinagar recorded a minimum of 10.0°C, Qazigund 9.4°C, Pahalgam 5.7°C, Kokernag 8.6°C, Kupwara 8.9°C, Gulmarg 2.6°C, and Jammu 21.5°C. Banihal recorded a low of 10.6°C, Batote 10.6°C, and Bhaderwah 10.4°C. (GNS)
