Students from Kashmir University and NIT Hazratbal have resented the move of Mini Bus Association from stopping Sumo drivers to ferry students especially female students from Srinagar to Hazratbal and vice versa.

Reports said that Mini Bus Association Hazratbal are harassing and stopping Sumo drivers to ply from Lal Chowk to Hazratbal from past week citing reasons that it is affecting their business, a move resented by students.

“Everyone especially female students prefer to board Sumo vehicles as Mini buses take too much time to reach the destination. Besides, it is convenient to travel in Sumo vehicles as compared to Mini buses,” a female student of Kashmir University Razia Maqbool told local news gathering agency, CNS.

Another student said that Minibus drivers have created panic in the area and they are always seen abusing and thrashing Sumo drivers. “These drivers have not only become nuisance for the Sumo drivers but for student community as well,” Fayaz Ahmed.

The students as well as employees of Varsity appealed RTO Kashmir and Police officials to look into the matter.

A Regional Transport Office official said that matter will be resolved soon. He admitted that the office is continuously receiving complaints against Minibus drivers who harass sumo drivers and do not allow them to ply to and fro from Srinagar to Hazratbal.
