SRINAGAR: A review meeting convened by the Jammu Kashmir government has triggered controversy, with MLA Kupwara Mir Muhammad Fayaz questioning the government’s approach to such meetings and the authority of the Chief Minister’s advisor.
In a post on X, MLA Kupwara Mir Muhammad Fayaz, strongly criticised the authorities for undermining elected MLAs.

“I just received a text of invitation from the PA to DC Kupwara stating that the Honourable Advisor and Honourable Minister are convening a meeting in the conference hall. I am a simple person and a grassroots worker. I have been elected MLA by my people. And more than ever before, the sanctity of the institution of MLA is under threat. As long as I am the MLA, I will protect the sanctity of this institution,” he said.
He also questioned the authority of the advisor to the Chief Minister.
“May I ask the government what the legal and political stature of the Advisor is, that he instructs the DC, who in turn instructs his PA to send a text of invitation to MLAs? And a humble piece of advice to the Honourable Minister: If you are serious about the institutional supremacy of the Assembly and the restoration of statehood, start respecting your fellow MLAs.
“There are six MLAs in this district. Call them. Text them. If you are serious,” Mir said.
Mir said that such review exercises were nothing more than photo sessions that hindered the routine functioning of officers.
“If you want to help with snow clearance, sit in one place and monitor the operations. Please stop these photo sessions. Summoning officers means taking them away from their work. Let them do their work.
Let me know where you are, and I will send the camera crew for your photo sessions. Please, do not disturb the officers,” he added. (KNO)
