SRINAGAR: National Conference President Dr Farooq Abdullah has called upon the people of Kashmir to unite against the growing menace of drug addiction and trade in the region.
Speaking to reporters in Srinagar, Dr Abdullah described the drug issue as a significant challenge. “This is a wake-up call for the people of Kashmir. There is a lot of dirty money involved in this drug trade, and unless we Kashmiris wake up, we won’t be able to control it.”
“We are Muslims only by name and not by action, and that is why we are struggling.”
Addressing concerns regarding Wakaf properties, Dr Abdullah expressed optimism, saying, “Allah will save us and the Wakaf.” He underlined the importance of these properties for community welfare and stressed the need to protect them from encroachment or mismanagement.
Commenting on Article 370, Dr Abdullah reiterated its role in safeguarding the interests and identity of the people of Jammu and Kashmir. “Article 370 was for the protection and safeguard of the people of Jammu and Kashmir, irrespective of caste, colour, regional identity, and religion,” he said.
He also reiterated his call for the restoration of Jammu and Kashmir’s statehood, describing it as vital for dignity and self-governance. “We are waiting for the Centre to restore statehood to Jammu and Kashmir,” he added. (KNT)
