(arrested on September 6, 1965) and Abdul Aziz (arrested 1967), Pakistan had parachuted them into Poonch during the war. Bhim Singh who is fighting for their release in the Indian apex court has accused the government of hiding the details. Even the SC division bench stated its unhappiness.

JAMMU

Revenue Department has issued an eviction notice to Satish Sharma son of MP Madan Lal Sharma asking him to vacate his illegal occupation over 41 kanals of land (in Khasra No. 424 Min) Lalyal village in Marh. He was seeking its regularization under Roshni Act, a plea that was dismissed because the land falls in a category not covered by the scheme.

DELHI

J&K’s former chief minister Dr Farooq Abdullah, who is currently a union minister, was admitted to AIIMS again, last week. He is suffering from viral infection in lungs and chest congestion. Farooq, who will be 75 in October 2012, is not doing well for last few weeks. Last month he spent around eight days in AIIMS after being diagnosed with pneumonic and chest infections.

KUPWARA

An enquiry that was ordered in to the death in custody of Sajad Ahmad Dar has indicted the jail authorities. A resident of Sangrampora working for BSNL, Dar was booked under PSA and imprisoned in district jail Kupwara. After he complained of pain, he was admitted to SKIMS on March 22 where he died. Family had alleged that Dar had complained of severe pain in the head during his detention because he was tortured. Once he was sent to a sub-district hospital. As the death triggered protests, a magistrate was asked to look into it. The report submitted to the Divisional Commissioner has accused the jail authorities of negligence.

BARAMULLA
A division bench of Delhi High Court has asked the government to produce the official records related to the death of a soldier Ajay Kumar Tyagi and subsequent removal of his kidney during autopsy in Baramulla. The widow was seeking a million rupees compensation for the kidney but the army is not ready, forcing Mrs Tyagi to go to court. The soldier was found hanging on September 8, 2009 in his post.

POONCH

Protests broke out in border town of Poonch after a woman lodged in local Jail and her infant died in district hospital. A magisterial enquiry has been ordered. Zarina Begum was facing trial along with her husband, and brother in law for the murder of a boy on November 25, 2011. She was pregnant at the time of arrest. She was sent to hospital but was advised to return. She delivered – first the baby died and then the mother.
