ARRESTED: Arif Gilkar resident of Khanyar has been arrested for his alleged involvement in stone pelting and cyber crime. Police says his name figured in police investigation in a case related to SIM cards used to access internet for “subversive activities”. Arif is presently working as an associate editor with, Urdu news magazine Suraag-e-Kashmir.

CONSTITUTED: Government has assigned R K Bhagat, Additional Commisioner, Jammu to hold an enquiry into allegations of brute police action on the civilian during tense situation in Rajouri district early last month. He is asked to submit the report within 15 days.

INsTALLED: One of the several initiatives taken to ensure better forecasting of weather for smooth conduct of Amarnath Yatra 2012 is establishment of three Advanced Warning System (AWS) each at the holy cave and at the base camp of Baltal and Pahalgham. The decision was taken in a meeting at Raj Bhawan.

FOILED:
Police foiled an attempt of hundreds of activists of Jammu and Kashmir National Students Federation (NSF) at Seiri Chattar village, Mirpur Pakistan administered Kashmir when they were making an attempt to cross LoC. But no one was hurt, police says. Its organisers say that it was an attempt to show the world that LoC is irrelevant.

ATTENDING: A high level delegation from the state would attend the chief ministers’ conference on National Centre for Terrorism Control (NCTC) convened by Union Home Minister P Chidambaram in New Delhi. The meeting would be attended by Omar Abdullah; Nasir Asam Wani, Minister of State for Home; Madhav Lal, Chief Secretary; B R Sharma, Principal Secretary Home and Kuldeep Khoda, Director General of Police.

REGISTERED: A criminal case has been registered against two people for obtaining migrant relief fraudulently. After investigation it was found that a seasonal permit of Gujjar/ Bakerwals was issued in favour of Hamida but apart from the name all other details varied from the actual ones. The relief amount has been withdrawn from time to time.

DIRECTED: The High Court directed the Regional Passport Officer (RPO) Srinagar to issue passports in favour of Mir Zubair Rashid and Fayaz Ahmed Wani who had applied for it long back. The court also directed the RPO to take some decision over a similar matter where Muhammad Zuhaib Ronga and Muhammad Manan Ronga, both students, have applied for the passport. They intend to go out for studies.

ADJOURNED: The state High Court adjourned the hearing of alleged fake encounter case involving the Chief of Army Staff designate, Lieutenant General Bikram Singh, by one week. Gen Singh was Brigadier 1-Sector Rashtriya Rifles in south Kashmir when the encounter took place. The petition has been filed by Zaituna, who has alleged that her son Abdullah Bhat, later branded as a Pakistani militant ‘Mateen Chacha’, was killed in a fake encounter.

ESTABLHED: State government established a full-fledged Police Post at Salamabad in Uri area of north Kashmir to keep a “check and balance” on LoC trade and alleged transfer of Hawala money into the Valley. It is said that the decision has been taken by the senior police officials and is likely to facilitate the LoC trade.

BUSTED:
An auto loan scandal busted in Co-operative Bank Mehendi Kadal, Islamabad. Police arrested two auto brokers while the then general manager of the bank is evading arrest. Police registered an FIR into the case and started investigation.

EXTENDED: The State government has decided to give another extension, the sixth one, to Cabinet sub-committee (CSC) on Justice Sagheer Working Group for three more months but the CSC have made it clear that it wouldn’t be possible for it to complete its task within next couple of months as the Group had submitted an exhaustive report running into three or four volumes. The CSC was formed two years ago and has to submit its report to Omar Abdullah. The report is said to have written about autonomy and self rule.

DIRECTED: NHRC has issued a directive to J&K government to give one more opportunity to those migrant candidates who could not join their duties in Kashmir due to various reasons. The commission passed their directives while hearing the application of C L Gadoo of  Kashmir Samiti Delhi supported by Kundan Kashmiri president Kashmiri Pandit Conference (KPC) .
