National Conference on Tuesday said that PDP Vice-President and Member of Parliament, Muzaffar Baig had exposed PDP and Mehbooba Mufti by making it clear that as against earlier statements the party had not sought any ‘Confidence Building Measures’ (CBMs) from the Union Government  ahead of its imminent government formation with BJP in the State.

“Muzaffar Hussain Baig has made it clear that after meeting the Governor PDP President Mehbooba Mufti’s statement seeking CBMs from the Central Government was false and misleading. Since Baig Sahab has stated that no CBMs are being demanded and the PDP-BJP alliance still stands, the only conclusion that makes sense is that this 40 day drama was all about internal dissension within the PDP which was brought to fore by the fact that Muzaffar Baig met the Governor with a prior appointment on the 7th of January but refused to hand over a letter to him because he wasn’t sure of the support of all PDP MLAs,” NC Spokesperson said in a party statement.

The NC Spokesperson said the political stalemate in the State was not about any alleged differences between PDP and BJP but about serious differences within the Mufti family and within PDP. “Mehbooba Mufti is on record to have said that the Central Government would have to ‘announce certain Confidence Building Measures (CBMs) for J&K and its people to restore their confidence and to provide a fillip to the new PDP-BJP Government in the State’. We have maintained that this hollow rhetoric and posturing was a desperate attempt to conceal internal dissent within the PDP and also create a false moral smokescreen of introspection and ‘review’. Today, one of PDP’s senior-most leaders and Member of Parliament has proved that those apprehensions were accurate,” the NC Spokesperson said in.

“Thankfully the videos of Mehbooba Mufti seeking ‘Confidence Building Measures’ (CBMs) from the Central Government  after meeting the Honourable Governor are there for the public to see. For the last forty days PDP leaders have postured as these allegedly conscientious beings with a belatedly awakened morality but Muzaffar Hussain Baig’s remarks have let the cat out of the bag. PDP’s problems are internal. The pretence of idealism and morality stands blown to pieces by a senior PDP leader himself and today the people of J&K know that this party tried to conceal its internal issues behind the cloak of demanding CBMs from the Government of India,” the NC Spokesperson added.

“PDP’s politics of lies, melodrama and deception had led to a prolonged political stalemate in the State with alarming stagnation in development. The people of J&K are suffering because of this seemingly endless, ridiculous drama by the PDP. They deserve either an elected Government or the opportunity to re-elect a popular Government. PDP’s antics, volte-faces and U-turns cannot be substitutes for governance and development,” the NC Spokesperson further said.
