JAMMU

Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Friday expressed concern over the Pakistani shelling on the International Border (IB) in Jammu and asked Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to honour the 2003 ceasefire agreement.

Addressing a public meeting at Ranbir Singhpora, close to the IB in Jammu, Omar questioned Islamabad’s ‘friendship rhetoric’ in the backdrop of shelling on the Indian border posts as well as the civilian population in the border strip from Kathua to Poonch.

The Chief Minister said, “Clearly, he either lacks the will, intention and sincerity or has no control over his Army.”

Pertinently, at least a dozen people were wounded on Friday as Indian and Pakistani troops exchanged gunfire over the border in the Himalayan region of Kashmir.

Officials said at least 10 civilians were wounded as Pakistani troops fired guns and mortar shells at more than a dozen Indian border posts overnight in the Jammu region of J&K.
