SRINAGAR: Among those who filed nomination papers for the Phase-II of Assembly elections, Maher Ali, son of MP Mian Altaf Ahmad, reported the highest annual income of Rs 24 lakh, surpassing NC veteran Mubarak Gul’s income by Rs 4 lakh.
Maher, running for the Kangan seat on the NC ticket, has movable property worth Rs 65 lakh and immovable assets valued at Rs 4.88 crore, totaling over Rs 5.50 crore. His affidavit shows Rs 2.60 crore in self-acquired assets and Rs 2.28 crore in inherited assets. His wife has movable assets worth Rs 14 lakh but no income. Maher has declared a Rs 1 crore liability as a bank loan. His income sources include stone crushers and private contracts, with a reported annual income of Rs 24 lakh for 2024-25, up from over Rs 6 lakh in 2020-21. He has a B.A. degree from IGNOU.
Zuhaib Yousf Mir, a first-time PDP candidate with an annual income of Rs 6.70 lakh for 2024-25, does not own immovable assets. His income has remained constant since 2019-20. He holds assets worth Rs 48 lakh, including 4,050 shares worth over Rs 40 lakh and 100 grams of gold valued at Rs 7 lakh. His wife has 500 grams of gold worth over Rs 35 lakh. He reported no liabilities. Zuhaib holds a degree in Economics from the University of Edinburgh, UK.
Jibran Dar, an Independent candidate from Chanapora, has Rs 30 thousand in hand and Rs 2 lakh in liabilities. He holds a B.Tech degree from Kurukshetra University.
Nazir Ahmad Gilkar from BJP, contesting as an Independent from Habba Kadal, has declared Rs 8 lakh in movable property and Rs 34 lakh in liabilities, including a gold loan, mobile loan, and car loan. He has an under-matric education and criminal antecedents.
Veteran NC candidate Mubarak Gul, running from Eidgah, reported an annual income of Rs 20 lakh, with his wife earning Rs 5 lakh. Gul has movable assets worth Rs 2.67 crore and immovable assets worth over Rs 4 crore, with his wife holding movable assets worth Rs 68 lakh. His total liabilities are Rs 10 thousand. His net worth for 2024 is nearly Rs 7 crore, compared to Rs 4.15 crore in 2014.
Hakeem Mohammad Yaseen Shah from the Jammu and Kashmir People’s Democratic Front (Secular) reported assets worth over Rs 7.05 crore, including Rs 5.72 lakh in movable assets and Rs 7 crore in inherited immovable assets. He has zero liabilities and an annual income of Rs 9 lakh for 2024-25, up from Rs 5 lakh in 2019-20. His assets in 2014 were valued at Rs 5.73 crore with total liabilities of Rs 38,000.
