NC President Farooq Abdullah Admitted to Srinagar Hospital

   

SRINAGAR: National Conference president and former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Farooq Abdullah was admitted to hospital on Saturday after developing an abdominal infection earlier this week, party leaders said.

The 87-year-old veteran politician, who has been a central figure in Jammu and Kashmir’s political landscape for over five decades, had been unwell for the past several days before being shifted to a private hospital in Srinagar for specialised treatment.

“He was not keeping well for the past few days but his condition is getting better now. He is likely to be discharged later today or tomorrow,” a senior National Conference leader said.

Farooq Abdullah (born 21 October 1937) is an Indian politician who serves as current president of the Jammu Kashmir National Conference. He has served as the chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir on several occasions since 1982 till 2002, and as the union minister for New and Renewable Energy between 2009 and 2014. His father Sheikh Abdullah was the 1st elected chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir, while his son Omar Abdullah is the current chief minister.

Party leaders said that his health was being closely monitored by doctors and that there was no cause for concern.
