In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Singh said that the upcoming airport would significantly boost tourism, trade, and overall development in the Chenab Valley region. He emphasised that the long-pending demand of the people of Kishtwar for direct air connectivity will finally be addressed under the government’s ongoing infrastructure expansion push.

The minister revealed that the project has received in-principle approval from the Union Ministry of Civil Aviation, and preliminary work has already commenced. “The construction of the Kishtwar airport will be another milestone in the government’s commitment to bringing remote areas closer to mainstream development,” he wrote.

Singh further added that the airport is expected to enhance accessibility to remote areas, ease transportation of goods, and open new opportunities for the local population. He credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of inclusive growth for making such projects possible in far-flung regions like Kishtwar.

Officials said that once completed, the airport will complement the government’s ongoing road and hydroelectric power projects in the district, which has seen a surge in strategic and economic importance in recent years.

The announcement has sparked widespread optimism among residents, who have long relied on road connectivity that remains affected during harsh weather conditions. The proposed airport is expected to be a game-changer for the hilly district, improving connectivity, emergency services, and tourism potential.
