CLUBBED: Mohammed Akbar Lone, Speaker Legislative Assembly decided to club two relevant petitions filed by two groups of BJP. One group headed by Prof Chaman Lal Gupta asks for disqualification of four BJP MLAs. The other group headed by Jugal Kishore Sharma asks for disqualification of seven BJP MLAs who were involved in cross voting last year. Lone said he will be giving his verdict jointly over the matter.

PUNISHED: Session court acquitted two accused men and convicted the two prosecutrixes in a case ordering imprisonment and a fine of Rs 5,000 on each them. These women had accused two men, a schoolteacher and a surrendered militant, of raping them and had later retracted their statement during the trial.

HOSTED: Omar Abdullah extended hospitality to 250 children of 33 Indian states and union territories by bearing their Gondola cable car ride expenses. Abdullah thinks this step will help to spread a message of love and affection all over the country. These children are on a national camp which is organized by the Indian Council of Children’s Welfare, New Delhi, with the collaboration of several departments of the state.

EXPECTED: Planning commission of India has agreed to support a provision of Rs 1000 crore grant-in-aid for the construction of 450 Mega Watts capacity Stage-II of the Baglihar Hydroelectric Project. It has also assured to consider the request of the state government for equity support for other hydro-electric projects under the Prime Minister’s Reconstruction Plan (PMRP). Authorities say this may help the State in tapping additional 3200 Mega Watts of electricity in next five years.

ISSUED: State High Court in view of the petition filed by Dr Mohammed Ashraf issued a notice to Chief Secretary, Principal Secretary Health and Medical Education and Director Health Services Kashmir challenging the appointment of Dr Saleem ur Rehman as the Director Health Services Kashmir. Dr Ashraf in the petition has claimed he is more qualified, experienced and more deserving than Dr Saleem for the mentioned post.

REVEALED: It was revealed that in the three districts of North Kashmir only one out of four operating blood banks is working with a valid government license. Besides, the hospital in Bandipora does not have a blood storage centre.

RESCUED: About 145 vehicles and 400 people, mostly tourists, were rescued from Khardungla pass, world’s highest motorable road. They were stranded 42 kilometres from Leh due to heavy snowfall and landslides. The ten-hour long rescue operation was led by Vivek Gupta, Superintendent of Police.

VISITED: A team from Helsinki University and the Geological Survey of Finland arrived on a 10-day visit to J&K to study the Himalayan Geology. The team apart from interacting with the faculty, scientists and students of the Kashmir University, will be visiting important places in Ladakh region for fieldwork.

APPOINTED: Mohammed Rafi has been appointed as a Mission advisor for Serva Shikasha Abhyan (SSA) for a period of two years in the school Education Department. He was earlier District Development Commissioner, Budgam. He is supposed to aid and advise the government in securing more effective implementation of elementary education in the state, particularly for implementation of SSA.

DIRECTED: V S Bhou, Special Municipal Mobile Magistrate, Jammu, directed JP Singh, DIG Jammu-Kathua range, to register an FIR against four police officers, two Inspectors and two Sub Inspectors at Pacca Danga police station. The verdict is passed on the complaint filed by Balraj Singh and his employee Ashok Saini who were mercilessly beaten up in the custody for their “fault’’ of asking  parking charges from Daleep Singh, Vigilance Organisation’s Inspector.

ORGANIZED: Srinagar Development Authority (SDA) to popularize the government owned Sangarmal City Center organised an eleven day long Sangarmal Shopping Festival. Live musical performances by local music bands, artists from information department and police were a part of the festival. The mall was inaugurated in 2010.

SHOCKED: Irfan Ahmed Wani, 9, was grazing his cattle when he came in contact with the low lying HT wire passing through his field, his father says. The boy has received critical burn injuries and was shifted to Banihal hospital, from where doctors referred him to Srinagar. The family claimed that the electricity department has ignored all the safety norms in the area posing threat to the local residents.

SERVED: Javaid Chowdhary , former Medical Superintendent (MS) of GB Pant Hospital, has served a legal notice on Showkat Zargar and Dr Muneer Massodi. Zargar is the inquiry officer probing the infant deaths in G B Pant and Masoodi is the present MS. Both are accused of destroying important evidence and maligning Chowdhary’s image. Chowdhary has also filed a complaint before the Commissioner Secretary of the Medical Education Department against Zargar and Masoodi
