ARRESTED: Ahtisham Malik and Tauseef Peer, from Sopore were arrested in Delhi and sent to police custody on a 10 days remand. Police claimed the duo were planning a bomb attack in crowded localities in New Delhi and that they are associated with LeT.

DIRECTED: Justice H S Bedi Commission directed the state government to respond to Syed Mohammed Yusuf’s family’s plea, seeking permission to inspect the CM’s residence, police hospital and Crime Branch headquarters. The response is to be submitted in the court by March 9. Yusuf, an NC worker died in the police custody last year.

Promoted: Four Vice Presidents of J&K Bank Abdul Rashid, Muhammad Syed Wani, Surender Krishan Bhat and Nayeemullah, have been promoted to the posts of president. The portfolio of the presidents has also been changed. The step has been taken to sharpen focus on bank’s economy, said the Chairman.

DIED: Nazir Ahmed Shiekh, 35, of Dalgate died in the Central Jail, Srinagar allegedly of cardiac arrest, police said. Nazir, a SMC employee, was arrested and sent on a judicial remand till March 5 for raping a married woman of Wachi, Shopian. The deceased’s family alleged that he died of torture in the jail.

CONVICTED:
Bashir Ahmad Sheikh son of Abdul Rehman of Hawal was convicted for abducting, raping and murdering a girl student. His partner in crime Sameena alias Sami of Kaw Mohalla Khanyar is also convicted for assisting him. The victim, an orphan was living with her aunt, who lives in Sameena’s neighborhood.

RESCUED: City police claimed to have rescued a 14-year-old girl from Kupwara within 12 hours of being allegedly kidnapped from Nowhatta area of Srinagar. An FIR No: 10/2012 U/S 363 RPC has been registered in the case.

RAPED:
A three-year-old girl was allegedly raped by her 30-year-old neighbour in Batamaloo area of Srinagar. The accused hailing from Tangmarg has been sent on seven day police remand. Police has sent the victim for medical examination.

DEINDUCTED: The State government has de-inducted three CRPF battalions, removed 39 paramilitary bunkers and vacated forces from 52 buildings in Srinagar, chief minister Omar Abdullah told the Assembly. The step has been taken after militancy related incidents witnessed a dip in Kashmir.

LAUNCHED:
Ellaquai Dehati Bank has introduced an account portability feature for its customer. This service will enable the customer to operate his account from any of the branches of the bank.

STAYED:
The State High Court stayed the proceeding initiated by State Accountability commission (SAC) against Peerzada Mohammed Sayeed, Minister for Public Enterprises.  The SAC had taken the action against the minister on the basis of the report prepared by the Registrar under Regulation 9 of the J&K Accountability Commission regulation, 2005.

FRAMED: Yasin Malik, Mushtaq Ahmed Dar and Shamima have been booked under TADA/POTA in a much publicized one lakh US dollar case. The charges against Malik are of having the intention to strengthen armed activities in the State and, Dar and Shamima are charged with transporting the money from Kathmandu to Delhi.

GRANTED: The High Court has granted two weeks time to the counsel of Union of India to respond to the Mian Abdul Qayoom’s application. Qayoom seeks inclusion as a party in Machil fake encounter case. In Machil, three youths of Baramulla were allegedly handed over to army by an SPO on the pretext of providing them a high paying job. The trio was later killed by Army in a fake encounter for gaining promotions and rewards.

EXTENDED:
The special concession to J&K of increased age limit in UPSC exams from 30 to 35 years has been extended by two years till 2013.

VACANT:
A total of 18817 posts are lying vacant in 18 government departments. Health and medical education leads the list with 6046 vacancies, wherein 3814 posts have been referred to the recruitment agencies. The lack of staff is hampering the proper functioning of the departments.

CRITICIZED:  Dr Mustafa Kamal, an NC MLA and GM Saroori, Congress MLA donning the role of an opposition criticized the present coalition government in the recent Assembly sessions. They picked up holes in commitments like AFSPA revocation and for discriminating Doda, where no high minister visited after avalanches claimed lives and destroyed property.
