EXPOSED: 50 individuals applying for contractual college lecturer positions were found possessing fraudulent M Phil degrees. The applicants were all from Anantnag. The case will not be investigated further and all these candidates and their degrees stand rejected, said authorities.

KILLED:  Ghulam Hassan Mir, 60, was killed in Sangroo, Kulgam during clashes between two Mohallas. The clashes started over altering the phases of a transformer. Police have arrested one under section 147, 148, 149 and nine others accused are absconding. FIR number 15/2011is lodged and further investigations are on.

PLANNED: The State government has launched a plan to flush out pollutants, silt and nutrients from Dal Lake. The plan will help to clear accumulated solid waste from the lake. All the outflow channels will be opened after decades. For years, only one channel was open to release Dal water.

PROTESTED:
Demanding certain action against involved officials, residents of Kandi, Baramulla, protested against issuance of a Permanent Resident Certificate (PRC) to non- residents putting up in the area. The residents accused the local revenue department for issuing the PRCs to those who have migrated from the area two decades ago.

BUSTED:
A recent racket of human trafficking busted in Baramulla involving Nazir Ahmed Bhat and a woman from Bihar. Nazir bought her and sold her for marriage. Later he helped her to escape from the marriage and resold her to another place for remarriage, earning a hefty amount from her. The woman has been arrested but Bhat is still absconding.

OWED:
Ministers and legislators owe about Rs 1.57 crores of their electricity tariffs to the Power Development Department (PDD). The figures were shared by the Minister in the Lower House. Despite having such a huge amount stuck with legislators, PDD has repeatedly been strict with commoners about the payment of their power tariffs.

ARRESTED: Shakir Hussain’s wife, mother and father in law were arrested in Kishtwar on the direction of National Investigation Agency (NIA) in connection with the Delhi High Court blast. Shakir is one of the accused in the blast and Police say he is a Hizbul Mujahedeen militant. So far three people including a teenager have been arrested in this connection.

EXPECTING:
J&K Agro Industries is expecting the Valley’s honey production to touch 75 MT by the end of this fiscal year, registering 100 percent increase from the previous fiscal year which was 35 MT. 75 MT will fetch them Rs 2.5 crores. The industries possess 50,000 bee colonies in Kashmir.

ADMITTED:
The State High Court admitted a petition filed by Zahoor Ahmed Mir for recovering his father allegedly killed by Papa Kishtwari and his associates. The Court has directed the government to conduct the DNA test of the bodies lying in the unmarked graves and asked to file the counter to it within two weeks.

ARRESTED:
Mohammed Ishaq Yatoo,25, a resident of Rafiabad, Baramulla was arrested by police in Mumbai. Yatoo had fled after killing his business partner Mohammed Sidiq Khan, 50, last month. Khan’s body was found dumped in a forest in Boniyar and Rs 1 lakh was taken away from him, police said.

ADMITTED:
J&K government granted out-of-turn promotions to 914 police personnel during the past ten years in the State. The highest number of promotions was given last year; 197. This was revealed in a reply in the Lower House.

ESTABLISHED: The National Federation of Blind in collaboration with Dagger Division of the Army have opened a school for blind children at Deewanbagh, Baramulla. 46 Rashtriya Rifles Battalion, under the aegis of the Dagger Artillery Brigade, provided furniture and other equipment worth around Rs 4,44,500 for the institution. The school was inaugurated by Major General (Retired) Raj Mehta.

INTENSIFIED:
Pt Premnath Bhat Memorial Trust called on the other Kashmiri Pandit associations and staged a protest against State for not passing the Shrines and Temples Protection and Management Bill in the current session of State Assembly. They are demanding a similar monitoring body as of Auqaf Board for running and protecting their temples in the state.

ARRESTED: Seeraj ud din Wani from Shopian, his wife Saleema and their three children were arrested from the Jammu railway station. Police say Seeraj is a militant and was living in Pakistan for the past nine years. The detainees have been shifted to Joint Interrogation Centre (JIC), Jammu for sustained interrogation.

PASSED:
The State High Court referred back the case of Manohar Lal Sharma, Minister of State for Cooperatives which was registered in Billawar PS to trial court. The High Court judge said Trial court has passed an illegal order against the law and has now been directed to pass a fresh order within two months after hearing both parties.
