RAIDED: Police raided a government hospital in Islamabad and recovered stocks of expired drugs that were distributed to the patients in there. In a separate incident three doctors were arrested for “negligence” which allegedly caused death of a woman in a Nursing Home in the same district.

PLANNING: State government is planning to constitute a board to look after the affairs of Chandi Mata Yatra on the pattern of Shiv Khouri Shrine Board. The modalities of the proposed board were discussed in a meeting chaired by Nawang Rigzin Jora.

CONTESTING: After contesting parliamentary elections of 2009 unsuccessfully, Sajjad Lone is all set to contest the upcoming municipal elections. Lone is reportedly planning to field his candidates from various municipal segments in and around Srinagar besides various towns in other districts of Kashmir.

BOOKED: About 333 public servants including 142 gazetted officers, two IAS officers and some director rank s have been booked by the State Vigilance Organisation in last three years. Besides, 443 cases were challaned in the court of law in last seven years in the state. The percentage of the proved cases was 65% in 2005 and is increased to 90% in 2011.

SOLD: Last year 29 metric tons of honey under the brand name ‘Summer Mist’ manufactured by J&K Agro Industries Department (JKAID) was sold and this year it is expected to increase up to 52 metric tons. The consumption was in domestic as well as international market, especially Europe and Middle East, official say.

KILLED: Ikhlaq Ahmed Lone, 14, from Hajinar, Tangdhar was killed in an explosion while working in his farm. This area in Kupwara is very close to the LoC. Till now many people have died in this area due to the explosions of left over shells during cross border shelling, which was a regular feature before the ceasefire in 2003.

PROTESTD: People in Pampore protested, and many of them indulged in stone pelting, against the nocturnal raids carried by police in the town continuously for two days. Two youth have been arrested in the area and one among them is said to have received severe injuries in police beating.
 
INVOLVED: Ten awardees of the President’s Medal for Gallantry (PMG) are among several police officials who are booked in 241 cases of various crimes and offences in the state during last 17 years, state home department official say. Of all the districts Jammu tops the list with 48 cases, followed by Doda, 31, Ramban, 23, Srinagar and Udhampur, 16, Poonch, 13, Anantnag and Kulgham, 9 each.

SET UP: The J&K police are planning to set up a full-fledged cyber crime police station in Kashmir. It would be the second such police station in the state. This step is taken to tackle the cyber crime and tighten noose around hackers, police says. It will be opened after the darbar moves to Srinagar.

REDUCED:  The Army claims to have decided to change the timing and reduce the size of the convoy plying in Kashmir. Convoys won’t hit the roads in peak hours, this is for the convenience of general public, the army say.  

PLANNED: State government is planning to run six prominent hospitals, three each in Jammu and Srinagar under private public private partnership mode including upcoming Super Speciality Hospital of Jammu.

REJECTED: Chief Judicial Magistrate Jammu, Jatinder Singh Jamwal rejected the bail application of Himmat Singh, a retired Girdawar, who is engaged in making illegal PRCs using fake stamps and other documents of Revenue officers. A case under section 420, 467, 468 and 471 RPC is registered against Singh.

HANDED OVER: Out of the total 7480 kanals needed, the district administration Kishtwar handed over approximately 5418 kanals of land to GVK Powers and Infrastructure Ltd. for the construction of 850 MW Rattle Power Project. It is to be constructed in Drabshala, Kishtwar. The project is said to have engaged 5000 people.

DECIDED: A Delhi court decided to bar media from entering the court and hold an in-camera trial of the alleged money laundering case against Hurriyat Conference (G) leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani. The decision of barring the media was taken after the accused complained that there was “venomous media reportage” of the case.
