BOOKED: J&K Police registered a case of ‘attempt to murder’ and ‘stone pelting’ against Syed Ali Shah Geelani, 83, after he addressed a gathering at Baramulla. The concerned officer said Geelani has been booked under sections 307, 336, 392,427,148, 149, 124-A, 153, 332 of RPC for provoking general public against the state.

REOPENED: The High Court transferred the petition seeking reopening of 1996 Baderwah fake encounter case from Srinagar to Jammu where it has been listed for consideration before a single bench on April 20. The petition is filed by widow of one of the victims killed in that triple murder case. The court has ordered to conduct a fresh investigation to identify that the actual accused and to assess the involvement of Kuldeep Khoda, DGP in those killings.

DIED: Mohammed Sharief Tariq, a leader of PaK and former President of Liberation League passed away at Mirpur. Tariq, a resident of Mendhar tehsil had migrated to PaK in 1965. He fought against human rights violation in PaK and was arrested many times for being an active voice there.

URGED: Union Home Minister P Chidambaram, met 20 CEO’s of various companies and urged them to train and employ youth of J&K. The union government is showing interest in adjusting the youth from the state in various companies outside the state. R K Singh, Union home secretary, also met about 20 senior officials of public sector units with a similar objective.

DIRECTED: The state High Court directed the concerned authorities to rely on Date of Birth (DoB) certificate issued by municipality or school for determining the age of minors. The court ordered then only will it accept the opinion of Medical Board regarding age of the minors.

REPORTED:
A team of doctors in SKIMS detected a woman, 33, with an unusual cancer in her brain. They say it is developed in her brain 30 years after a Kangri had accidently burnt one fourth of her skull. Though, the woman is now treated and doctors say is recovering.

REJECTED: The Sessions Judge Baramulla rejected the plea filed by Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) that sanction is required for trial against its accused personnel allegedly involved in a firing incident that killed a student on January in Boniyar, Uri.

RULED: About 4.5 lakh non-metered electricity consumers, 3,99,697 domestic and 43,339 non-domestic/ commercial, will not be entitled for the power supply beyond April 28, 2012. This step is taken in view of the two year deadline ending April 2012, by the State Electricity Regulatory Commission (SERC) for metering all areas.

DIRECTED:
High Court directed the state government to preserve the residential house of poet Mehjoor as a memorial for posterity. Court has appointed a Commissioner for spot inspection of the house and is asked to submit his report within a week. The petition was filed by Mehjoor’s grandchildren.

BURNT:
Tazeem Kouser, 22, wife of Ghulam Rasool of Sagra from village Langiot was tied with ropes and burnt alive, reports say. The burnt body was left in a cattle shed and was found by her parents who came to see her after knowing she was being tortured by her in-laws. Kouser was married two years ago and her husband is said to be in Saudi Arabia for the last four months.

GRANTED: The High Court has granted one more month to the Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the killing Tufail Matoo to complete its final.

BOOKED: The Jammu and Kashmir police have booked two brothers of National Conference MLA and minister Rashpal Singh for assaulting villagers protesting encroachment of state land and felling of trees. None of the accused have been arrested.

CONVICTED:
A local Court awarded rigorous imprisonment of ten years and imposed fine of rupees one lakh to Bashir Ahmad Zaroo of Sonwar convicted for selling cannabis.

MURDERED: A youth murdered his 19-year-old brother and threw his body in Ragoora forests near Jammu. The accused, a resident of Bihar, is absconding.

ANNOUNCED:
Post India has announced that it would set up new post offices near Line of Control (LoC) and four more mobile post offices along Srinagar-Jammu highway.
