RECORD: Trans-LoC trade that started in October 2008, created a record in Poonch as well as in Uri this week. While the total turnover at Poonch window reached over Rs 10 crores the Uri window created another record by registering a turnover of over Rs 15 crores in two days.

NABBED: After the arrest of two militant leaders Abdullah Inquilabi and Javed Qureshi from New Delhi and Dehradun respectively, police claimed to have nabbed a Hizb district commander in Himachal Pradesh. A police team from Doda has left for Shimla to take the possession of the fugitive.

SHIFTED: Moderate Hurriyat leader Mirwaiz Umar Farooq moved from his Nigeen home to ancestral Rajouri Kadal residence (Mirwaiz Manzil) on Thursday in a bid to foil the government curbs which have barred him from attending Friday prayers at Srinagar’s Jamia Masjid for 13 weeks. However police raided Mirwaiz Manzil during the night and ‘forcibly’ evicted the Mirwaiz and dropped him at his Nigeen residence. Friday prayers were not held at all in the historic mosque for nine consecutive weeks.

SACKED: Syed Jamaat Ali Shah, Commissioner Pakistan Indus Water who has been frequently visiting Kashmir in last 15 years, was sacked. He was replaced by Sheraz Memom, an official of Sindh Irrigation Department who reportedly lacks any working knowledge about the Indus water Treaty. It happened at a time when Pakistan has already moved the International Court of Justice (ICJ) over Kishanganga project.

DIED: Ghulam Rasool Mushtaq, a Shina poet passed away in Gurez on November 24. He was also writing poetry in Kashmiri and Urdu as well and was very popular in Gurez. Born in July 1947, he did his matriculation and was appointed a forester, a job he left in 1972.

CURFEWED: For the first time in the history of last 20 years the government imposed curfew in connection with the Muharram processions. Authorities said imposition of curfew restrictions are aimed at preventing law and order problems.

AGREED: Central government doubled subsidy for micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in J&K at par with North Eastern states. It also enhanced capital investment subsidy to 30 per cent of the investment on plant and machinery.

CRASHED: Seven Indian Air Force (IAF) personnel including a Squadron Leader and two engineers of the Konkan Railways Corporation Limited (KRCL) were injured when a MI-26 helicopter crashed shortly after taking off from the Technical Airport in Jammu. It was airlifting heavy road and tunnel construction machinery for the Railways to Reasi-Sangaldan stretch of the Katra-Qazigund Railway Project. This was the chopper’s 19th sortie to the remote belt since the operation started on October 29.

SHIFTED: Northern Command PRO Lt Col Kochhar was transferred for issuing a controversial press note on CRPF thinning in Srinagar. The press note issued on November 30 led his commander to apologise to chief minister Omar Abdullah.

KIDNAPPED: Ikhwani’s operating in Bandipore kidnapped a mother of six children from Chalivan Gujarpatti triggering protests in the belt. The family said the kidnapping was done for extortion. Police later detained four persons including two army sources.

REGISTERED: Buckling under public pressure, the police registered an FIR against two soldiers for the murder of Najeem Hussain, a young resident of Dharana village in Mendhar. The soldiers took the youth with them and later he was found dead. The incident triggered massive demonstrations in the town.

APPLIED: College lecturer Noor Mohammad Bhat who was detained for setting a “controversial” question paper under unlawful activities act has finally applied for bail. Soon after arrest he was remanded to six days of police custody.

ISSUED: Health minister Sham Lal is yet to respond to the show cause notice that Congress high command issued to him. Lal had stated publicly that trifurcation of the state would be the only way out, if centre conferred autonomy or self rule to J&K.

RECOGNIZED:
Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine in Katra has been recognized as one of the important green buildings in the country. The shrine, off late, is using alternative energy to mange part of its requirements. These include a bio (gobar) gas plant and tapping solar energy.

APPOINTED:
Lieutenant General JP Nehra took over as the new General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of Jammu based 16-corps. The Nagrota based White Knight Corps is responsible for managing over 250 kms of the LoC that falls in Jammu region.

NEEDED:
For a Naidkadal boy Aijaz Ahmad, a movement for fund raising started from a social networking site. The 10-year old boy has undergone 12 surgeries and still require around Rs 17 lacks for treatment. He was injured during a protest.
