ROADMAP: New Delhi’s interlocutors on Jammu and Kashmir will submit a document containing the contours of a political settlement of Kashmir issue to the Centre within two weeks. The panel, claims to have studied the autonomy demand of National Conference, Self Rule proposal of PDP and the documents of Awami National Conference, Sajad Lone and the document of the Working Group, headed by Justice Sageer Ahmad, set up by the prime minister.

SUBMITTED: The three interlocutors on Kashmir have submitted four reports so far, junior union home minister, Gurudas Kamat told Rajya Sabha. “No time-frame has been prescribed for the interlocutors. So far they have submitted four reports. The recommendations made in these reports have been sent to the concerned authorities,” added Kamat.

TALKING: India and Pakistan have resumed structured talks with home secretaries of the two countries meeting on March 28 and 29. India had suspended the so called composite dialogue with Pakistan more than two years ago in the wake of the Mumbai attacks in November, 2008.

NOT SENT: The mercy petition for Afzal Guru, sentenced to death for his alleged role in the Parliament House attack, has not yet been forwarded to President Pratibha Patil. The union home ministry has forwarded 23 of the 25 mercy petitions to the president, however, Afzal Guru, whose petition stands at number 18 in the list is not one of those forwarded.

ANNOUNCED: The central government was working to provide 50,000-100,000 jobs to the youths of troubled Jammu and Kashmir, which Prime Minister Manmohan Singh said would change their ‘mental makeup and mindset’.

PROTESTED: Baramulla town in north Kashmir observed shutdown in protest against the alleged thrashing and the arrest of several youths by troopers. The arrested youth were later handed over to the police.
SHOOTING: Bollywood actor Ranbir Kapoor besides actress Nargis and director Imtiyaz Ali were in Pahalgam for the shooting of a film this week.

SNATCHED: Unidentified masked gunmen allegedly snatched Rs 40,000 from the manager of a petrol pump in Newa Pulwama in South Kashmir.

LAUNCHED: The Reliance Communications rolled out 3G services in Kashmir, with the first phase covering Srinagar, Budgam and Ganderbal districts becoming the first company to provide these services in the state.

GO AHEAD: Maintaining stay on the trial proceedings, the High Court has allowed the General Security Forces Court to go ahead for the Record of Evidence in Zahid Farooq murder case against their accused commandant, R K Birdi and Constable Lakhvinder Kumar. The court however, directed the GFS court not to conclude the trial of the case prior to the final decision from the High Court.

FREE: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah asked senior separatist leader and Hurriyat Conference (G) chairman Syed Ali Shah Geelani not to make “false claims” that he has been detained by the Delhi Police. “All he (Geelani) has been told is to not leave the city until he (Geelani) records his statement in connection with the alleged Hawala case where one arrested person has told the police that some Hawala money was passed on to him (Geelani). He can go anytime he wishes to,” Omar said.

SEGREGATE: Police have asked the tuition centers in Baramulla town to hold separate classes for boys and girls to stop growing waywardness in the society. The DIG of police North Kashmir, Muneer Ahmad Khan also asked the owners of coaching centres operating in busy markets to immediately shift their centres to other places.

DEADLINE: A local court has directed police to complete within 15-days the identification parade of forces involved in the killing of Tufail Ahmad Matoo, the teenage boy whose death sparked spontaneous protests in Kashmir valley last year.

PROPOSING:  The government is proposing amendments in the existing land acquisition laws, to make it easier to acquire land for developmental works. The amendments are expected to be tabled in the upcoming budget session of assembly.
