JAMMU: The Jammu and Kashmir Government has revealed that the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has acquired over 3,100 Kanal of land in Samba district for highway development, including more than 100 Kanal classified as Gair Mumkin Khad land.
According to a written reply from the Revenue Department to a question raised by MLA Surjeet Singh Salathia, a total of 3,179 Kanal of land has been acquired by NHAI in Samba district, of which 112 Kanal and some marlas fall under the Gair Mumkin Khad category — a classification typically referring to uncultivable streambed or water channel land.
The government also said that Rs 767 crore has been disbursed as compensation to affected landowners in the district. Of this, Rs 350.60 crore pertains specifically to the land acquired under this initiative. The reply further clarified that no compensation liabilities are pending as of now.
The disclosure comes amid ongoing concerns over land classification and fair compensation in infrastructure expansion across Jammu and Kashmir.
