SRINAGAR: A no-confidence motion has been initiated against Nazir Ahmad Khan, Chairperson of the District Development Council (DDC) in Budgam.
Thirteen council members submitted the motion on February 29, 2024, citing Khan’s failure to convene council meetings for over a year and alleged neglect of duties.
In response, the Deputy Commissioner of Budgam scheduled a council meeting for April 7, 2025, to deliberate on the motion.
The decision follows a directive from the High Court of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh, which, on March 29, 2024, instructed the Deputy Commissioner to conclude the no-confidence process within two weeks.
This is the first instance of a no-confidence motion against a DDC chairperson in the region.
Council members said that all thirteen voted against Khan, who now ceases to be the DDC Chairperson.
They expressed gratitude to the court and the Deputy Commissioner of Budgam for taking steps to uphold democratic process. (JKNS)
