The Minister in charge of the Power Development Department told the Legislative Assembly that electricity rates have remained unchanged during this period, barring the PIU category.

The government clarified that in 2025, the department directed DISCOMs to form teams to verify load agreements in non-metered areas to improve billing and collection efficiency under RDSS norms. It said these teams are conducting routine inspections, with load revisions carried out only after physical verification of actual usage. Mobile phone videography is being used during inspections instead of seizing electrical equipment.

It said load agreements are revised only where there is a mismatch between sanctioned load and actual consumption, and billing is based on verified usage. The government maintained that this process is part of enforcing load norms and does not amount to a tariff revision.

The minister added that safeguards are in place to protect genuine consumers, stating that load enhancement is done only when actual usage exceeds the approved load and is supported by on-site verification.
