SRINAGAR: The Jammu and Kashmir Power Development Department (JKPDD) announced on Monday that the recent allocation of an additional 293 MW of power by the Union Ministry has resulted in a substantial reduction in distress curtailment.

Principal Secretary, Power Development Department (PDD), H Rajesh Prasad, informed the news agency KNO, “Unscheduled power cuts have reduced since the Government of India announced a power supply of 293 MG. We have been able to maintain the scheduled cuts.”

When asked about the ongoing curtailment schedule of power, the principal secretary stated, “The ongoing schedule will continue to remain in effect. We are not reducing it.”

He mentioned that the department was maintaining more than what was being supplied last year. “As of now, we cannot predict the power demand and supply because of several factors, including power availability, peak winters, and the availability of funds,” Prasad said.

He emphasised that the department did not want to make any promises that it couldn’t deliver.

Meanwhile, the Chief Engineer Distribution for KPDCL, Javed Yousuf Dar, informed KNO that there was an improvement in the situation in this regard. “There has been a significant reduction in distress curtailment.” (KNO)
