SRINAGAR: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Sunday said he will cut short his stay in Delhi and fly to Jammu this afternoon to personally monitor the worsening weather and flood situation in parts of the Jammu division following an alert issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
In a post on X, Abdullah said the gravity of the situation warranted his presence on the ground.
“In light of the weather warning put out by the meteorological department and the seriousness of the situation unfolding across parts of Jammu division, I will leave Delhi to fly to Jammu this afternoon to personally monitor the situation on the ground,” he wrote.
The Chief Minister’s decision comes amid widespread disruption caused by heavy rainfall across the Jammu region. Flash floods have inundated several low-lying areas, particularly in Rajouri district, prompting rescue and evacuation operations by the administration and disaster response teams.
Abdullah, however, said the National Conference’s scheduled protest seeking the restoration of Jammu and Kashmir’s statehood would proceed as planned despite his absence.
He said the programme would be led by JKNC president Dr Farooq Abdullah.
“The statehood protest will go ahead under the leadership of JKNC President Dr Farooq Abdullah as planned,” the Chief Minister said in his post.
The administration remains on high alert as heavy rainfall continues to lash parts of the Jammu division, with authorities closely monitoring the evolving situation and urging people to follow official advisories.
