Srinagar

As Election Commission of India has decided to go for re-poll on 38 polling stations in Srinagar parliamentary seat on April 13, the opposition has slammed the decision, asking for the logic of re-polling and deferment at the same time.

National conference working president and former Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah has mocked the decision asking for logic for re-poll when by-polls scheduled to be held on April 12 have already been postponed.

“Situation isn’t conducive for polls in Anantnag but it’s conducive for a re-poll in the areas worst affected by violence on the 9th. Logic??” Omar tweeted on Tuesday.
There was an extraordinary boycott and violent protests against by-polls for Srinagar Parliamentary seat.

At least eight civilians were killed and more than hundred injured in clashes at different places, particularly in Budgam district. The poll percentage was recorded as 7.14.

Addressing media, Chief Electoral officer Shantamanu Sunday evening said “it was not a good day for all of us.”

Giving the incident figures, he said “there were total 200 incidence of violence.”

He had shown confidence of conducting elections on time and declare result on April 15. However regarding re-polls, he said “it can vary from 50 to 100.”

A day after the elections, BJP backed PDP candidate Tasaduq Mufti addressed a press conference at chief minister Mehbooba Mufti’s residence and appealed ECI to postpone the polls.

After calling all party meeting, ECI cancelled the by-polls for Islamabad seat and rescheduled it for May 25.

Meanwhile the polling stations where re-poll is scheduled are all in Budgam district where massive protests erupted and most of the killings took place.
