SRINAGAR: Following the fresh snowfall in Kashmir, the Power Development Department (PDD) on Monday announced that it has restored electricity in all areas of the region. The department stated that no major damage was reported due to the snowfall.
A senior official said, “Although there was no significant fault or damage that could have disrupted electricity due to the snowfall, some areas experienced minor issues with transmission lines and distribution transformers (DTs), which were addressed immediately.”
“As of now, we have restored electricity in all areas of the Kashmir region,” the official added.
The official further mentioned that the department is currently assessing the minor damages caused to DTs due to the snowfall.
When asked about the ongoing power supply and curtailment schedules, the official revealed that over 1800 MWs of electricity is being supplied to consumers in the region.
“The power supply has increased, and as of now, we are providing over 1800 MWs of electricity to the consumers in Kashmir. In recent weeks, the supply has even touched 1950 MWs,” the official stated.
Regarding unscheduled power cuts in both metered and non-metered areas, the official explained that distress cuts typically occur in flat-rated and non-metered areas.
“Consumers in metered areas generally do not face unscheduled power cuts, but those in flat-rated areas experience issues due to overloading, which can damage power lines or stations,” the official elaborated.
The official also pointed out that flat-rated consumers often use crude heating devices. “There is no judicious use of power in flat-rated and non-metered areas,” the official said. (KNO)
