SRINAGAR: PDP President and former Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti on Friday expressed serious concern over the apparent disappearance of over 3.55 lakh Waqf properties from the national record following the implementation of the UMEED database.
She highlighted that updated figures indicate significant gaps in entries across various states, including a loss of 7,240 Waqf properties in Jammu and Kashmir.
Sharing the data via an image on X, the former Chief Minister said the discrepancies raise serious questions regarding transparency and the safeguarding of Waqf assets. Several states reportedly show steep reductions in their recorded Waqf properties, with some losing tens of thousands of entries.
Mufti described the trend as alarming for the Muslim community, which she said has already been confronting issues such as violence, demolitions, and disenfranchisement. She called the erosion of Waqf land “another blow” to the community and questioned the long-term implications of the process.
According to the figures she shared, the number of recorded Waqf properties nationwide has fallen sharply from 8,72,352 in December 2024 to 5,17,040 in December 2025, underscoring what she described as a “significant decline” in national Waqf records.
