SRINAGAR: The Power Development Department (PDD) has decided to avoid power curtailment at Sahoor and Iftar times in feasible areas during the holy month of Ramzan.
In this regard, the department is likely to hold an important meeting on Saturday to discuss the mechanism and strategy for implementing the new schedule for Ramzan.
A top PDD official said, “We have reduced power curtailment in almost all areas, but during Ramzan, we will try to avoid curtailment at Sehri and Iftar times.”
The official further stated that in case of overload in any feeder, the department may have to implement curtailment.
Regarding local power generation from plants in the Kashmir region, the official said that production has slightly improved following fresh rain and snowfall.
“In the past few weeks, the average power generation was nearly 40-45 Megawatts from local power plants in the Kashmir region. However, at present, we are generating nearly 70 MWs of power,” the official said.
The official also noted that power generation capacity is likely to improve further in the coming weeks.
Notably, hydel power generation from power plants across Jammu and Kashmir has decreased by five percent due to low water levels over the past month.
Overall, hydro power generation from local plants in Jammu and Kashmir has declined by 84.17 percent.
In January, the PDD was generating nearly 250 Megawatts of power from local hydel projects, which amounted to 20 percent of the total generation capacity.
However, in the ongoing month, power generation has further decreased by five percent. (KNO)
