SRINAGAR: Several areas across Kashmir are set to experience scheduled power outages over the coming days as the Jammu and Kashmir Power Transmission Corporation Limited (JKPTCL) and Kashmir Power Distribution Corporation Limited (KPDCL) undertake critical infrastructure works, including transmission line safety upgrades, conductor stringing and augmentation of receiving stations.
According to the Chief Engineer of JKPTCL Kashmir, a week-long shutdown of the 220 KV Wagoora–Zainakote transmission line has been scheduled to facilitate the installation of Aviation Warning Spheres (Marker Balls). The shutdown will begin at 7:00 AM on July 23 and will continue till 6:00 PM on July 29, affecting power supply to a vast number of areas in Budgam district. The impacted regions include Char-i-Sharief, Chadoora, Nagam, Panzan, Wathoora, Bugam, Hafroo, Hayatpora, Yousmarg, Gogjipathri, Budgam, Ichgam, Choon, Kremshore, Khan Sahib, Brenwar, Kanir, Barwah, Hanjoora, SIDCO, Ompora, NIFT campus, Railway Station Budgam, Nasrullahpora, Sholipora, Watrihail, Charangam, Sebdan, Brinjin, Raithan, Surasyar and other adjoining areas.
In addition, the KPDCL has announced a series of shorter shutdowns in parts of Baramulla, Budgam and Anantnag districts to carry out pole erection, conductor stringing and commissioning-related works. On July 21 and 23, from 6:00 AM to 1:00 PM, shutdowns of the 33KV Ahmadpora–Beerwah and Ahmadpora–Magam lines will affect the power supply in areas including Beerwah, Khag, Arizal, Sonpah, Najan, Zanigam, Gandipora, Mazhama, Aripanthan, Magam, Old Sanoor, Werihama and Budren.
Furthermore, a shutdown of the 33KV Ahmadpora–Kongamdara line on July 21 will impact supply to Ahmadpora, Kunzer, Kongamdara, Batapora, Agrikalan, Khior, Goigam and neighbouring villages. Meanwhile, in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district, the augmentation and final commissioning works at the Zirpora Receiving Station will necessitate a shutdown of the 33KV Zirpora Tap line on July 22 and 24, from 7:00 AM to 1:00 PM. This will affect supply to areas including Zirpora, Cheniwudder, Srigufwara, Bewoora, Kanelwan, Darigund, Thajiwara, Dupatyar and nearby localities.
Officials have urged consumers to cooperate with the ongoing maintenance efforts, which aim to improve the overall efficiency, reliability and safety of power transmission and distribution infrastructure in the region.
