Two day long Continued Medical Education (CME) program on Therapeutic Applications of Radioisotopes organized by department of Nuclear Medicine SKIMS in coordination with Society of Nuclear Medicine (Northern Chapter)  was inaugurated Thursday at SKIMS auditorium.

Director SKIMS Dr. Showkat A Zargar in his address congratulated the department for organizing the event and lauded the HOD Nuclear Medicine Dr. Shoukat H. Khan for strengthening the department which has significantly improved over the years. Dr Zargar said he is optimistic that SKIMS will get PET –CT as efforts are on and funding options are being explored.  He said dual head gamma camera was recently introduced in the department and assured further administrative support to the department.

He said nuclear medicine has witnessed great shift over the years with advancement in medical sciences ‘molecular imaging help to visualize and even quantify the disease which is an evolutionary step in nuclear medicine” he said.

Dr. Uma Ravishankar President Society of Nuclear Medicine (Northern Chapter) shed light on advantages of therapeutic isotopes which she said is an ideal choice with less side effects than chemo and radiation therapies.

Dean Academics Dr. Gul Javid highlighted the academic endeavors of the department. Others who spoke on the occasion included Organising chairman& HOD Nuclear Medicine Dr. Shoukat H. Khan. Organising Secretary Dr. TanveerA.Rather presented vote of thanks

During the two day program various scientific papers on various topics such as thyroid cancers will be presented by leading experts attending the program.
